FRANCE24 is born!

FRANCE 24 is the first French international news channel to broadcast on a 24/7 basis. In December 2006, it offers a French perspective on world events. FRANCE 24 is characterized by respect for diversity and attention to political and cultural differences and identities. It offers an in-depth analysis of current events, aiming to uncover what lies beneath the surface and reveal what the public is not used to seeing, knowing or understanding. It also gives special attention to culture and lifestyle.
FRANCE 24 is deploying a decisive and bold multilingual strategy. Its programs are broadcast on two channels, one in French, one in English, with Arabic scheduled for 2007. Spanish will follow. Free and unencrypted, the network broadcasts via the various platforms of the digital universe : satellite, cable, ADSL, Internet... It places Internet at the heart of its strategy with a trilingual site as of its launch.

Floyd Landis fails a doping test

Landis said that he produces naturally high levels of testosterone, but the French anti-doping council proved that testosterone in the rider's urine samples came from an outside source. Landis explained his high level of testosterone either by a natural process in his body or by drinking alcoohool. Both explanations were ridiculous and certainly did not help to make him a champion in his supporters eyes.

Gaia will boost astronomical knowledge

Gaia is a european mission that will conduct a census of one thousand million stars in our Galaxy. It will monitor each of its target stars about 100 times over a five-year period, precisely charting their distances, movements, and changes in brightness. It is expected to discover hundreds of thousands of new celestial objects, such as extrasolar planets and failed stars called brown dwarfs. Within our own Solar System, Gaia should also identify tens of thousands of asteroids.
Additional scientific benefits include detection and characterisation of tens of thousands of extrasolar planetary systems, a comprehensive survey of objects ranging from huge numbers of minor bodies in our Solar System, through galaxies in the nearby Universe, to about 10 million galaxies and 500 000 distant quasars. It will also provide stringent new tests of general relativity. Gaia will be launched in 2011.

Subscribe to your toothbrush!

You subscribe to electricity, magazines, telephone, Internet, but do you subscribe to your toothbrush?
This question seems odd, but the author of the french site http://www.brosseadomicile.com was wondering three years ago if this project had a future. And the answer is yes. The first subscription service "toothbrushes to your doorsteps" is born. The concept: you subscribe and you regularly receive a new toothbrush by mail (not by email!). The difference between that and going to the nearest shop to buy it yourself? You are not likely to forget to change toothbrush and hygienicaly speaking, all dentists agree on that, and the site webmaster will not contradict me, it is necessary to change toothbrush regularly.
Good, of course, but now there is life after brushing your teeth, think about socks (but that concept is already taken), think hard, I am sure you will find new concepts of "business" on Internet based on the same principle!
